What’s the role of a project manager in an agile project? Is there a role? While many claim there is no need for a project manager — product owners and team members perform those duties — out here in the real world that direction may not be practical. Many product owners have full time marketing jobs and asking them to do the additional tasks needed for a project is just not going to happen.
Because of this reality, even companies that realize they need to hire a full time dedicated product owner are hiring people with project management background. Can you guess why? Yep, a rose by any other name is still a rose. So whether they’re called product owners or project managers there’s still a lot of project management tasks that need to be done.
How do you get approval to begin an agile project?
How do you estimate a budget so that the sponsor will commit funding?
How do you justify needed resources?
How do you do release planning?
