THE BIRTH OF ASIAN CULTURE DAY
May 18th Becomes Official Asian Culture Day
It is with great pride that we are happy to inform you that the State of Nevada has recently enacted a law giving official recognition of the more than 150 years of invaluable contributions made by Asian immigrants to the founding, development and continuing prosperity of the great State of Nevada. It has now been codified that on the 18th day of May each year, that the Governor shall execute a “Proclamation” identifying that day as “Asian Culture Day”.
Culture is often defined as groups of people: their beliefs, values, and shared history. But when we look a little deeper, there’s so much more that represents this word. Culture can be a beautiful handcrafted Chinese headdress, a traditional performance by Himalayan dancers, or statues and wooden carvings made from trees native to a certain region. These are the small, beautiful, palpable things that represent a people and a part of their history. We invite you to celebrate our culture and heritage with us.
On May 18, 2017, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed into law SB175R1, a Bill which authorized and requested the Governor to annually proclaim May 18 to be Asian Culture Day in the State of Nevada.
