It's that time of year again...when the port is screaming to get out of the barrels. Yep...Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 PM is going to be a «port-tee special day» around here at Grape Expectations.
It's the lip-smacking, much acclaimed, event of the year...occurring 12 months to the day from last year's memorable extravaganza.
So what is the thing called port, you ask?
• Port is a wine that is fortified by the addition of a neutral spirit in order to stop the fermentation, leaving residual sugar in the wine, and to boost the alcohol content.
So, what exactly is a «Port Party», you ask?
• «Well! Let me tell you, Don Pardo!»...it's the process of transporting port from two 53 gallon barrels into a gazillion 375 ml bottles for later consumption while basking in the jittery afterglow of a port party.
Grape Expectations is offering port-loving winemakers the opportunity to stop by on Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 PM to learn more about the art of making port and to join us in a «Port-ta-Party Bottling Extravaganza». Please feel free to bring some wine and some finger food while we reapportion the port.
Port-ticipating winemakers will have the opportunity to port-ticipate on a “per case bases” exporting barrels of port into a gazillion 375 ml bottles and deporting cases home for consumption at a later date. Portions are set at $150 per case. We won’t be free-pouring port…but don’t despair, samples of the port we are bottling will be available.
Now…keep in mind, it’s port-tee cold inside the wine school so dress apportpriately.
And no…I was not port-taking of any reindeer juice when I wrote this…however I did have a port-tee big glass of port while I was writing it (smile).
Hope to see you on Thursday, December 7th at 6:00 PM
