Southern Nevada’s original Day of the Dead festival celebrates its 17th year of honoring the dead and mocking Death with the festival’s patron, Elizadeath, in the guise of a Las Vegas showgirl. Beautiful ofrendas (altars), glowing with candlelight, are covered with the food, drink and artifacts the dead loved in life to lure them back for a visit. Meanwhile, dance, music and humorous poetry remind us that Death helps define life, and we should not fear her.
November 1 and 2 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; free admission; Food and crafts for sale.
Those interested in participating in Day of the Dead activities can call the Winchester Cultural Center at (702) 455-7340 or Irma Varela, the coordinator for this event at 455-7031. For more information visit the website at clarkcountynv.gov/
